Lending Library
Our Lending Library is located in our Resource Centre and is open to LDAFS members. Non-members may borrow items by leaving a refundable $50 deposit. We have a comprehensive selection of books and videos on topics relating to Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorder, Parenting, Educational resources, Behaviour interventions, Adult LD/ADHD, etc. One of our most popular videos, ”How Difficult Can This Be? The F.A.T. City Workshop” with Dr. Richard Lavoie, shows viewers what it is like to have learning disabilities through a series of interactive, hand-on activities that simulate the experience of children with LD in a typical classroom. Many children experience Frustration, Anxiety and Tension, hence the title “F.A.T. City”. more Library info
Community Outreach
LDAFS endeavour to inform the public by presenting our information at Community Fairs, offering monthly Information Seminars, providing LD awareness presentations or LD simulation workshops to employment agencies, employers, schools, Parent Advisory Committees (PAC), church groups and at other agencies and events. We encourage our members to help us raise awareness of LD. Please contact us to see how you can get involved.
Scholarship
The Hector Hadley Memorial Scholarship was named in honour of a father and LDAFS member who was dedicated to ensuring his daughter who struggled with LD, would receive the support she so desperately needed to be successful at school. She went on to post-secondary education through his unfailing advocacy on her behalf. His daughter was the first recipient of this scholarship in 1998.
Once a year, we offer this $500 scholarship to any student with a diagnosed learning disability that is pursuing post-secondary education at a recognized institution. Only qualified applicants that meet our criteria will be eligible. If no qualified applicants apply, then no scholarship will be granted. Proof of LD and admission to a post-secondary institution is required. 2009 scholarship application
