Success Stories
The Unique Minds Foundation was founded by Kelvin Wilson when he was in grade 10. Kelvin, who has dyslexia, now attends the University of the Fraser Valley. He is an inspiration and defines the immense potential that all individuals with learning differences have when they have proper support systems in place. With his vision to help children with learning differences who are less fortunate than he is, he established the Unique Minds Foundation, a registered charitable organization. He has raised a tremendous amount of money, a portion of which has assisted many students with learning disabilities to attend the LDAFS Multi-sensory Group Reading program at significantly reduced fees.
Most of the funds raised by the Unique Minds Foundation have been through a fundraising calendar project. This is the third year for the fundraising calendar that presents many positive role models of successful people with learning disabilities. Kelvin has succeeded in inspiring others to see that with resilience, tenacity and a supportive environment you can achieve greatness despite obstacles.
For his commitment and contribution to the Unique Minds Foundation and social responsibility Kelvin has been honoured with:
♦ Canada Heritage Award
♦ West Vancouver Achievement Award
♦ Rick Hansen Award
♦ Duke of Edinburgh gold award
♦ Bruce M. Hicks Memorial award
Unique Minds is launching their 2009 fundraising calendar; they will be available for sale at the LDAFS office after Nov. 15th and through our many events. Calendars may also be purchased on the web at www.ldcalendar.com
