About Us
The Learning Disabilities Association of BC - Fraser South Chapter (LDAFS) is a not-for-profit organization that has been providing programs and services to individuals with learning disabilities for over 30 years. Our Resource Centre is located in Surrey, British Columbia, however, our chapter serves the communities of the South Fraser region, including Surrey, Delta, Langley, and White Rock.
Mission Statement and Purpose
Our mission is "to advance the education, employment, social development, legal rights, and general well-being of people with learning disabilities (LD)". Our purpose is "to promote early recognition, diagnosis and treatment of learning disabilities, and to develop or sponsor appropriate programs and resources for the benefit of people with learning disabilities and/or their families".
What does LDAFS do?
LDAFS provides programs and services for people with learning disabilities and/or their families. These include remedial, academic and social programs for youth, parent workshops, information seminars, a resource centre, a lending library, parent information packages, community outreach, and support and referrals through our family resource coordinator. Membership
The Fraser South Chapter has one of the largest memberships of all LDABC chapters, consisting of approximately 180 members comprised of parents, single adults, educators, other professionals, and organziations with an interest in learning disabilities. Our Membership reflects the multicultural mixture of our community and is open to everyone.
As a member of LDAFS, you are also a member of the Learning Disabilities Association of BC (LDABC) and the Learning Disabilities Association of Canada (LDAC) As an Annual Member of LDAFS you will receive our quarterly newsletter, the LDAC National newsletter, library privileges, free information seminars and reduced fees on some programs. Board Members
The Board of Directors takes the lead in promoting the mission and services of LDAFS. Our volunteer board is led by Lesley Sheppard, President of the Board.
Staff
Our dedicated staff are vital for the day-to-day operations of our organization. They have first hand knowledge of the challenges and opportunities of having learning differences and look forward to assisting you.
