Student fees $23/hour.  Please call to book a tutoring time and arrange for a free reading assessment.</p>
<p><strong>Multisensory Math Program:</strong> One to one Tutoring in understanding basic math concepts or homework support runs from January 30 to May 23, 2012.  One hour sessions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays.  Winter/Spring session is full.  Please contact us for the summer session.</p>
<p><strong>Multisensory Keyboarding Instruction: </strong>One to one direct instruction using multisensory techniques.  Students learn following the successful &#8220;Typeright&#8221; program developed by the Howard Eaton, M.Ed. for students with learning disabilities.  Program runs once a week on Thursdays from January 19 to March 8, 2012.  Student fees $265/ Eight (45 minute) sessions plus annual membership fee of $35.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>LDAFS offers an after-school tutoring program for students aged 7 to 14 who are having difficulty with reading, comprehension, spelling and/or writing.  Adult volunteers (18+) work one to one with a child following a research-based literacy program developed for children with learning disabilities. Tutors work in a classroom setting with 4-6 other tutors under the supervision of a certified, special education teacher.<br />
Shifts: Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs; 4-6 pm, 5-7 pm, or possibly 6-8 pm. Tutors are assigned a maximum of two students; one for each hour.  The spring program will run from February 6 to May 24, 2012 (15 weeks).   There are two locations for tutoring in Surrey or Langley: Janice Churchill Elementary, 8226 - 146 Street in Surrey or Douglas Park Community School, 5409 - 206 Street, Langley (Tuesdays and Thursdays only).</p>
<p>Information sessions for the spring program will be held on either Tuesday, January 10 or Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 7 pm at our Resource Centre located at #201 - 13766 - 72 Avenue, Surrey (above Coast Capital Savings-Newton). <p><strong>Training:</strong> Prospective volunteers attend an information session, personal interview with teacher and upon acceptance must participate in 24 hours of training; on-going mentorship is provided during tutoring. Training dates for the spring program are Saturdays, January 21, 28 and February 4, 2012 from 9 am to 4 pm, and a writing skills inservice on Saturday, February 18 from 9 am to 12 pm.  Training location TBA.</p>
<p><strong>Skills and Experience required:</strong> <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Excellent English skills are essential</span> (speaking, reading and writing); must enjoy reading and sharing your love of books with children, must be patient, caring, encouraging, reliable, punctual, dedicated, previous experience in a teaching environment or working with children an asset. Personal interview and criminal record check required. Must participate in all training dates. Use of own vehicle helpful as tutoring location not on direct bus route.</p>
<p><strong>Benefits to Volunteer:</strong> Fulfill volunteer hours required for university or college, valuable work experience with children, letter of reference and certificate on completion, recognition luncheon and small gift. This is a rewarding, responsible volunteer position, and valuable work experience for anyone considering working with children.</p>
